Studio Log #001
My first studio update isn’t something super spectacular. But it builds up to more as long as I keep up consistency.
Last week I took a week vacation to Virginia Beach and I had an amazing trip. It was great because I haven’t had a vacation in a long time and I needed some time to decompress from work and even get out of the studio to get some fresh ideas.
I spent a good chunk of time taking long walks on the beach and taking a bunch of reference photos that I hope will potentially turn into artwork one day. And one thing I can note is that the start of that process has begun.
I have an idea of turning this into a much bigger piece but here is a sketch I did over the past couple days:
Started out as doing a study and then decided to stylize it a little bit and then added some color to see what kind of backdrop I’d probably try and do on an actual paint piece. I am currently working on a paint piece now but as soon as I’m done work on that this will definitely see a re work on canvas and paint.
Until then I am going to keep making progress on current project and keep working on ideas in the sketchbook. On my way back from vacation as soon as I got back to the studio I had a package of references that I got developed. Now that I got at least one Virginia Beach reference photo worked on I can get the photos I took over vacation developed and while I wait for those I have some other photos that are ready to go.
The reason I am trying to use actually developed photos is delebrate. First reason is I want to get off of my phone. And its hard to do that when you are staring at a reference photo. So instead what I have been doing is taking my own photos and getting them developed.
Second reason is because I was tired of getting reference photos off the internet. Between searching through, google, pinterest, and instagram there is work everywhere but who knows if its copy written, if its art from someone else. So to avoid that and avoid being influenced by the social media feed. I rather take my own photos that inspire me to not only take them but to then draw it and study it. That can’t be done scrolling pinterest for hours looking for just the right photo.
So next update will probably be another sketch but time to get back to work and study. I am going to try and get another study completed by Friday.
